I listened to both Tommy and you have certainly smoothed things out with the second go around. The backing track is a little more balance in #2 but #1 lead guitar has a certain rawness to it that is appealing to my ears. Maybe because the first is closer to the sounds of the 60's or it just might be the worn frets on the other guitar that makes it great, lol! Who can hear worn frets anyway......not these old ears. Excellent re-work and thanks for joining me in the First Post Fest, it was getting lonely in there.

Hi Farrell thank you for commenting
Listening to the first version of Spinning wheel -
I personally think I have lost something since my first post
the rawness -excitement that I could do it-make a recording -I loved (I still do)putting things together as I thought it
should sound -at the time-bum notes guitars that needed re fretting-
Big Big mistake there-I sold it on  :'( :'( :'(

I think as we learn -we are inclined to loose the rawness and concentrate on putting every block in it's rightful place
No harm in that-but every now and then I think we should just do raw recordings -as in take one only -
mumbles bumbles and all -I'm kind of expert at that by the way ;D ;D ;D
I hope you all know what I mean-perfection-balance -everything in its place is a great achievement
But lets not forget the enjoyment
In your first version of your song Farrell -it has that something special
Sorry for rambling on folks

Both of your recordings sound good Tommy but the first has just a tad more spark and dynamics. I totally understand your thoughts about the newness and thrill of recording and mixing a multi track song that we never thought was possible until the affordable digital recorders were available. We went into it with a sort of trial and error approach and loved the results we got because they were so much better than any recording we did on a stereo cassette deck. I miss that myself.

Thanks for the comment on my first post Orchid Faded Sky. By the way all those tracks were one takes without any editing or punch ins....that was my recording philosophy then. If I didn't get it right all the way through, I would erase it and do it again and again and again until I got it right. These days I fix it with overdubs or cut and paste to make it sound better but I think some of the spark gets lost doing that. I went back to that original approach with my song Lady In The Mirror and I was very pleased with the not so perfect results.

Just some thoughts.

BTW Tommy I don't think you've lost anything since your first post...it's just different.

I'm a bit confused also.  I like the lead part better in the first version and the backer better in the second.  Not that it's that clear cut, mind.

No biggie; they're both very nice.
