drm protected music files. help?

my friend has recently purchased a new laptop, which won't play any of his music files that are drm protected. it is a music collection he has purchased from various sources over the years or copied from his cd collection. he has no idea as to licence numbers etc for the files.

is there a simple way to remove the drm protection. any help would be greatly appreciated.
