Ooh this is a bit tasty - I love the tones you have got - lovely sustain, loads and loads going on in the rhythm section - I like the blend of live and programmed drums, and 7/8 just floats my boat.

Super!

Great piece of music, very tasteful in every respect. On my third listen. Nice to have a studio engineer on board. We can flood you with questions :-)

thx bruno and flash harry.

i'm a sucker for odd meter. i just love to play drums in odd meters cuz it's so much fun to get in that kind of groove. it's probably pretty obvious i've listened to a lot of king crimson.

the programmed drums really do add so much good flavor to the sound. i also add in sample loops of the live drums with filters and fx. so i record the main drums with like 11 mics, then i program some sampled drums, and then i record a few beats on the live drums with only 1 mic. the 1 mic is plenty because it's so heavily processed and the role it plays is not to sound big, but to be blended in. i know it's going way overboard, but damn it's a lot of fun! i have the tools and the know how, so why not? (says the mad scientist as he builds his doomsday device...)

this song was the first song i made with the touch guitar, so i really spent a lot of time experimenting with tones to see what that bad boy could do. thick heavy guitar sounds are so much fun to record. what i did was record all the parts through live amps and cabs, and then also doubled the parts recording direct and using guitar amp plugins. then i blended the 2 to get the qualities i liked of both.

i'm happy to share some of my experience and knowledge. feel free to ask me questions and i'll try to help.

This sounds really good. Really great arrangement. I to am a sucker for odd time signatures. The live drums gives an organic feel to the rhythm section.

thanks jarie. the arrangement is basically all about tones, textures, and dynamics. the presentation is everything here. there was no actual song that was written, just a 7/8 riff with a lot of parts that grew organically around it. there was no vision from the start, it just came into focus as i built parts around the 7/8 riff. kinda like putting together a puzzle without knowing what the image is going to look like until the parts start coming together.

music is a snapshot in time. it doesn't lie. whatever is going on at the time will be heard. i bet you can tell i was having a lot of fun with this.
