BR-600 repeat play

Started by jombo, April 10, 2009, 05:28:07 AM

Could someone with a br-600 tell me how the repeat play function works as I am considering purchasing one instead of a RC-20XL looper.I understand the setting of the repeat play(a/b points ect) but what I would like to know is exactly how it funcions when set.
1.  Could the unit be effectivly used similar to a looper?
2.  Is there any limit to (repeat) loop time?
3.  When a looped track is repeating can you still hear your input guitar so you can improvise over the repeated loop and if so could you record on another track?
4. When you use repeat play can it only be set to one track at a time or can you repeat loop more than one track?
5.Does it loop the track or master?
I realise that a proper looper would be better but if I can do similar with the BR-600 it offers so much more.
Any replies greatly appreciated.

AB Repeat will repeat the playback of the current mix for the defined A/B points. You can then play along with it as you would with a looper. However, a gap of approximately 70ms will be heard between each iteration of the loop. A better way to loop with a BR is to copy the section as many times as needed. This is easily accomplished as the COPY function prompts you for the number of copies.

Quote2.  Is there any limit to (repeat) loop time?
No.

Quote3.  When a looped track is repeating can you still hear your input guitar so you can improvise over the repeated loop and if so could you record on another track?
You can certainly play along with the looping AB Repeat section. You will hear your guitar and be able to use all of the BR's effects. However, you can only record for the duration of the loop (one iteration). For example, if you're looping a 10-second segment, then you can only record 10 seconds on another track and that new 10-second recording will immediately begin looping along with the other playback tracks. But if you copy the loop segment as described above instead of using AB Repeat, then you can record whatever you like for as long as you like on any of the other tracks.

Quote4. When you use repeat play can it only be set to one track at a time or can you repeat loop more than one track?
5.Does it loop the track or master?
AB Repeat will loop the entire mix. If you only want to loop one track, you can simply set the faders of the other seven tracks to minimum so that they won't be heard in the mix.

64's got it right on the money. My only suggestion when using the copy and paste feature is to make sure you record your track in tempo using either a preset beat or a metronome. This way, you dont have to pinpoint exactly where the loop begins or ends, you can simply specify the exact measures based on the screen display.

Did that make sense? Instead of guessing or aiming for the perfect spot to loop it, recording in tempo lets you KNOW exactly where the loop starts and ends based on the measure/bar/beat displayed on the screen (as opposed to the time frame which is far more difficult to nail down.)
