Damn I made the biggest rookie mistake-i haven't backed up lately (a couple weeks)-and my SD card went south on me-I always prided myself in my PC back up regimen, but never got in the habit of backing up my MBR-I lost about 3 new ideas i was working-i could just kick myself in the arse >:(

Can you read the card on your PC in a card reader? If so, it might be possible to salvage some files. Or have you already initialized it?

in an attempt to salvage my dead sd card that i hosed last night while tinkering with the arr prog, it miraculously has risen from the dead.
I was gonna try using a formatting prog i found on the net to see if could at least format this thing to use somewhere else(like my daughter's camera or my girlfriends Wii)
When i turned it on this a.m. it worked-so i quickly made a backup before it pooped out again
I don't trust this particular card anymore so i am gonna retire it- but it is good to have my song info back
what was weird is i tried to initialize it(which should killed it for sure) and tried to format too with no luck last night
i noticed last night when i first removed it, it shot out of the spring loaded socket-literally- it does appear to have a scratch on one of the contacts-these little buggers are very sensitive

Lesson learned- Handle with care and back up often

Glad to hear you got your songs backed up. If you're sure the backup is good, you should try again to initialize the card. But before you initialize the card, have a close look at your backup in BR Explorer (from your hard drive, not the memory card). If it shows all the songs and they're a reasonable size (30MB or larger), then the backup is probably good. You could also launch the BR Wave Converter from BR Explorer by clicking the WAV button and try converting your tracks to wave files. If that works and the wave files sound okay, then you know you have a good backup. Initialize the card and restore the backup to it. Chances are, the card will work just fine from now on.

Weird things will happen when you mix files from different BR models. Someone recently posted a BR-900 pattern file in the BossBr group and, since I know the file layouts are the same on the BR-864 and BR-600, I copied this BR-900 pattern file to my BR-864. But then I started getting card read errors and the song's name mysteriously changed from "Wizkil" to "Song0000". I took a look at the pattern file in a hex editor and the only thing I could see that was different from a BR-864 pattern file is that they both have the machine type in the header. So I used the hex editor to change "BR900" to "BR864" and the card errors went away. Also, the song's name changed back to "Wizkil" automatically and the drum pattern played perfectly. So, just having those three characters "900" in the file instead of "864" made my BR-864 behave as if the memory card was bad. If you unzipped that BR-900 backup to your Micro BR, I'm not surprised that your Micro BR behaved as if the memory card was bad. But, once you initialize the card so that all of its files and folders are from the Micro BR (and not the BR-900), the card will probably work normally. Back up often just in case. But, if the card continues to work normally in the next week or two, then there's no need to replace the card. There's nothing wrong with it. The Micro BR just got totally confused by the presence of the BR-900 files. On the other hand, if you can't initialize the card, or you continue to get errors, then obviously you should replace it.

Good luck.

Initializing a card is nothing to be afraid of as long as you're sure that you have a good backup of everything. Initializing is really no different than formatting a hard drive or floppy disk. It just erases the card and sets up the required sectors and file allocation table, then creates a new song.

The danger with not initializing the card is that you may still have some incompatible BR-900 files on it that will cause more problems. Also, you attempted an initialization once already and, although it failed, we don't know what it might have done to the card. So it's best to initialize the card and restore your backup to it.

If you want to be absolutely certain that your backup is good before you initialize the card, try restoring the backup to your other card. If that works and all the songs are restored and work correctly, then you should have no qualms about initializing the problem card.

Yes that makes perfect sense-I am inclined to believe that it was a file issue and not a scratched contact
thanks 64

I only have a few guitars - 3 electrics, a bass, and an acoustic with a broken neck (my first guitar).

Years ago, when I first got my BR-864 and discovered the Yahoo BR-864 group, I found that I had to become a member before I could read the messages. I really hate how every website I visit seems to want me to sign up before I can do anything. In frustration, I just chose the first user name that popped into my head, taking the '64' from BR-864 and 'guitars' (obviously) from the fact that I'm a guitar player. At that time, I was only interested in READING messages to learn more about my new BR-864 so I didn't really care what my user name was. Had I known I would become a frequent poster, I would have put more thought into it. Oh well.

My favourite guitar is my Godin xtSA. It has two humbucking pickups plus a single-coil pickup in the middle. It also has an RMC piezo pickup in the bridge. This is great for getting realistic acoustic sounds, especially when used with the BR-864's Acoustic Guitar Processor effect. The RMC piezo is also connected to a 13-pin connector for use with Roland GK compatible synthesizers and other GK gear, such as the Roland VG-99 Virtual Guitar system. So, it's a very versatile guitar, and it's very comfortable to play too.
