I agree with Hook - strip the blue off and let's see that lovely natural wood underneath!

It looks good and I bet it sounds great.

I'd be torn between leaving it as it is and repainting.  I like the colour now and the exposed wood looks beautiful.  But your repainting idea sounds good too.  If you are like me, you will never get around to the repainting :-)
