What Truly Makes Me Me
written & performed by Hook
It seems to me
being relative is a matter of relativity
Attention spans are weak
Futures are bleak
I've tried to be
the center of attention and be seen
but as a character not truly me
I still crave anonymity

Reality is all the rage
so all the worlds become the stage
And of course you must consider age
When you choose how to waste your time

I've tried to be
focused on quality
But quantity is constantly
taking the lead
Mouths to feed
Responsibility for those in need
True importance lives in family
And family deserves privacy

We are enamored with the darndest things
no rhyme or reason to what might bring
views and plays & likes & friends
in this very real game of pretend

If I achieve
a level of success with stability
I hope I choose to do things differently
And not lose sight of what truly makes me me

Because the Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

Beautiful, melodic and melancholic - great combination in a song.

A good song Hook but the lyric is what gets my attention. The seem biographical, poignant, with irony and realism to them. I know as song writers we write words about things we see and feel  hoping to convey that same visual or feeling to the listener. I have to say you're successful.....it's worked on this listener....good one!

Lyrics are well written, your voice is full of melancholy and realism...

The keyboards/organ & synth/space sounds fit perfectly with the acoustic guitar

Love that beautyful melody
