hey guys,
just curious about getting an external condenser mic to plug into the line-in, since I am not overly impressed with the built in one. I was looking to buy the Boss one originally, which costs around £50-60. Then I saw this on ebay, and it looks pretty much the same, but for 99p: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=220383442804

Thats a condenser mic, so will it do the same job? Also I will need to turn on plug-in power with that, right? will that drain the battery even more?

Many thanks

Glenn Mitchell

Lots of guys have bought this one and I might myself. It's good for getting stereo input which the on board can't do.
Don't give up on the on board tho, it is a surprisingly good mic but is very sensitive to positioning. Try a few rooms, distances and unique positions. You might make a holder for it so you can use a mic stand.

Yes the onboard mic can be surprisingly high-quality, but the Sony, come on it's $5 + free shipping!! You can't go wrong...I have one...It does pick up quite a bit better than the onboard~ Yes, you need to turn on the plug-in power...I haven't noticed any additional battery drain....

I actually bought a 2nd one last night for back-up just because they're so cheap-But SO useful!!

There's quite a few sound samples of this mic in the MicroBR "post your MP3" section...I'd go for it, you don't have much to loose!!

Ok you convinced me. It seems so cheap I thought it must be a scam. Lol

I've had one for a while and didn't use it as the onboard suited me just fine.  Then Kody got one and was experimenting and it sounded good.  I used mine for the transAtlantic Blues Jam songs.  don't know if anyone can tell a difference.  But I thought it was great!

got one for $6 on Ebay. Now we wait to see if it arrives.

Yeah, it took awhile for mine to come to Nebraska...atleast 2 weeks, but sure enough....it came, in a nice little envelope from Hong Kong~ even has authentic Japanese writing on it~ I'm saving it for keep sake lol! I think you'll love it Glenn, just remember that you have to go to the utility menu and turn on the Plug In Power~Hopefully that will save you a headache~took me awhile to figure that one out on my own lol!

Ok.  You guys have convinced me to get one too.  Another question on the external mic tho.  I am going to a concert that I would try to record if it didn't breach Tommy Emmanuel's copyright rules.

How much stereo recording time do you reckon you would get on a new set of batteries ?  I have a 2mb SD card in my BR.
