I think I have been wasting a track all this time :-[
I realise a stereo backer needs T1&T2 but Is there any benifit to recording a mono guitar track on T37&T4 does it sound in any better than just recording T3 which would leave T4 for other stuff.........
Sometimes I feel a right Numpty ;D

There is not a big improvement in recording lead guitar into two stereo tracks.  One track sounds just as good.  Sometimes I record to one track and copy that over to another track and pan these out a bit, it thickens out the sound, makes it bigger. I have played around like this.  Sometimes I have recorded a rhythm copied it and panned these L50R50 for that "big mono" sound, the sound is everywhere across the whole field.  It is fun to play around but for just a basic solo guitar over a backer I record to one track and leave it in the center.  I am interested to hear what other folks do for their lead guitar sound.

If you do copy as above you might try using different FX on each to give it some separation.
Otherwise, to my untrained ears at least, it sounds the same as one track centered.

Yeah, I noticed that right away when I got my MBR~ I can't tell a difference between Mono/Stereo...That's a nice feature on my BR900 that I love~ Makes a huge diffence in sound using 1(mono) or 2(stereo) tracks...

Great advice Glen, I guess I was doing that with reverb but not with other effects so great tip.

That's because the BR-900 (like most of the other BRs) has many stereo effects (acoustic processor, chorus, doubling, flanger, pan, pitch shifter, and tap delay). When these effects are used, you'll hear a huge difference when recording in stereo as compared to using just a single track. But, when these effects are not used, recording an electric guitar or bass in stereo is a waste of a track as both tracks will be identical.

The Micro BR only has two stereo effects: tap delay and pan. So, unless you're using one of those effects, recording an electric guitar or bass to a stereo pair of tracks is just a waste of a track. So, always record electric guitar and bass to a single track unless you're using the tap delay or pan effects. The same applies to recording with the onboard mic or a single external mono mic. You should use a single track unless you're recording with the tap delay or pan effects. Of course, if you're using two external mics or a stereo mic, then you should record to two tracks.

Thanks guys It is offical now I am a BR Numpty :-[
Seriously thanks for all the advice I will be putting it to good use ;)

You can always use a separate effects pedal, like a Zoom or Line6. These also have some stereo effects, although you will have to use the stereo line input in the MBR rather than the guitar input, which is mono.

Recording two lead guitars with different effects is quite fun, that's what I did here on the guitar melody:
