This is the greatest site on earth
I started here -found it by chance
read everything that other members had posted -re recording -how to do this -how to do that

This site is a goldmine of information

I dropped off for a while -life-but could'nt stay away
I am on a couple of sites-non music -with 100s of members and very few post.

So this site is unique and I reckon very very healthy-
Where would you get the chance to collab with members spread around this wide world of ours

I reckon we are friends -sadly most of us will never meet -but we are together here
because of our love for music in all it's shapes and forms
VIVA LA SITE!!!!

I think this site is actually pretty active, and of course my favorite place to melt away into. I've been using a video editing forum lately www.videoforums.co.uk which has been helpful as I try to figure out Sony Vegas Home Movie 11 Platinum. It has a few regulars and some activity daily but I think songcrafters is relatively busy in comparison. What keep this place alive in my opinion is the core group that have developed respect & friendship by sharing, listening & encouraging. I know when I first joined I was in a different place and didn't see how songcrafters would really benefit me. I was using the the yahoo group for questions about the bR900 but was deeply involved in creating a career. Once I got somewhat stable and began writing for myself again I sought it out and it's been nothing but inspiring to me.
There will always be members that only post their songs and don't participate. I think they see this as some sort of marketing for their career in music, I did...and stopped posting rather quickly. It was once I realized what this place really was that I got involved. To think of all the collaborations I've done with my friends all over the world, it's amazing. I can't say I'll post 3 a day but I spend a few mornings every week catching up, I would imagine my average is around that.
Rock on my friends!

Because the Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

And just to clarify, when i say core group i mean 20-40 (approx) members that throughout each year pop in and make some significant  contributions to the site. Not with just their songs but with their interest in the community. Lets face it not everybody has the time to waste overposting frivolous, self indulgent musical meanderings like i do. Im grateful that there is a place for me to do it
Rock on!

Likewise.  I'll have the odd splurge of half a dozen replies / reviews / random thoughts, then not be able to catch up for days.  I also agree that compared to many forums, this is quite busy - some go days without a single post, seems to me.

I like to plug in to the latest songs jukebox and usually when I listen I make a comment.

For me it's the fests that keep the forum - and my music enthusiasm - healthy; I've tried many different music styles from them and before I joined this site I hardly ever did a cover song, you could count them on the fingers of one foot.

Like everybody else it seems, my involvement ebbs and flows. In the past, I would beat myself up horribly over the times I couldn't comment regularly. A site that was supposed to bring joy brought guilt along with it. That was crap, so I simply don't beat myself up for it any longer. I may not get as many comments when I do post something, but such is life. Like old friends, I like to think we just pick up where we left off when one of us vanishes or lurks for a spell.

Having said that, today was my last day with 100 staff members, and last Thursday was my last day with 1,000 middle-schoolers. Although I work over the summer, I'm hoping for a little parting of the clouds. Even fired up the DAW last night as I wanted to try and write something in 5/8.

Hoping for a productive summer.

Peace.

Hear, Hear to all that's been said before me on this thread.
I'm as guilty as the next. I tend to be dormant for an eternity.
Mostly due to the normal: Apathy, lack of inspiration, lack of free time etc, etc, bloody etc.

Then, when there's a window & something stirs in my musical nether regions. I post a song & go on a comment flurry. After that it's nose back to the grindstone.
It's no reflection on the quality of work & good people here, it's just the too many things to do v not enough time to do them syndrome.
I'd love to say it'll change ... But I know I'd be lying ;)

Guilty as well, for not taking more time to lend an opinion often enough.. Songcrafters takes a real pro active /responsive  stance, in regards to so many upcoming, brave and competent musicians,,and feedback,is often such a gift, and inspires me and each one of us, to daily "up our game" keeping us sharp-- Keen competition out there!
So I too will too, stop to listen in,and share feedback more frequently and if if i've been too myopic-my apologies.
I'll make the effort... Good post..

I do my best.  Mind you - it is no hardship.  I quite like listening to music!  Better than watching the telly.

Paul, I like using binoculars to watch the newly-weds across the street. Very interesting...
