Inspired by Geir's marvelous version of a Thin Lizzy song, I thought I'd have a bash at another Lizzy tune - "Don't Believe A Word" which Gary Moore did on the OGWT with an ensemble called Gary Moore and Friends - Thin Lizzy by another name.

I played the guitars parts on my 7up green Clapton strat through a Fractal AxefxII.  Both the blues section and the rocky section were played straight through in single takes - no drop ins.

The backing took me a little longer and was all played on my Yamaha Motif XS7.

Hope you like it.

Amazing.

What Geir said.

There hasn't been enough Thin Lizzie for a long time. I have a hankering after digging out my old vinyl, I think I should have Jailbreak somewhere....

Great playing & great song.

I like the heavier tone and occasional flurry. Something Gary Moore was known for. Loved it.

I'm particularly fond of the stray sounds after the song was over.

Hi Paul

Excellent work on all counts. I liked this recording a lot.

If it's not too much trouble could you please tell me if The Fractal system can be used live with a regular guitar amp.

I've got a 65 Fender Twin Reverb Reissue.

Thanks
Nick

Glad you like it chaps.

Nick:  You absolutely can use the Axefx live and I believe lots of people do.  People like Dweezil Zappa for example.  I don't, but that's only because I don't play live anymore.

I understand that most people get a stereo power amp and a couple of speakers, but you can also disable the speaker and power amp simulation part of the patches and plug into the effects send and return of a standard guitar amp, although I imagine that you would have to tweak a bit to suit the natural colouration of your amp.  To be honest the "tweakability" of the unit is simply awesome.

The handbook says "Although it was designed for complete guitar signal path simulation, the axefxII can also be put to superb use as a standalone effects processor. As such it can be placed between guitar and amp to replace stompboxes..."

I must say that I haven't tried using it this way so I can't vouch for it from personal experience, and given its price it is a very expensive replacement for stompboxes.  I guess that if you are reasonably satisfied with the core sound of your amp, then you might consider there are better ways to spend c£2000.  For me - as a home studio poser - it was worth every penny, and the quality of the effects is very good.

Have a look at the Fractal audio website which will probably be useful.  http://www.fractalaudio.com/

The other thing you might want to consider is the Kemper profiler which Bruno (on this site) gets some great sounds from.  Check out some of his music.

Hope this helps a little.
