Recording vocals late in the evening.

For me, the greatest struggle I have these days in regards to recording music is finding the god damned time! Long gone are the days when I had no children, wife or a full time job and time was in great abundance.

Now the only time I ever really get any time to lay down tracks is late in the evening, and this is the hardest time to be wailing huge vocal takes.

My plan to get around this is to load up the BR with batteries and set myself up in the car.

I read this post on Gear Sluts about the sonic possibilities of recording in your car and it looks like a pretty good option for an improvised vocal booth.

Do you guys have any experiance with batteries? How much recording time do you think you can get with a fresh set?

Is there a car adapter for a Boss PSA type adapter that will work on the BR-800?

What are your thoughts?
Warmest regards,

Captain Jimbo

A car is excellent for vocal recordings. I've done it with all my BRs. A fresh set of batteries runs quite a long time, but I always bring an extra sort just in case.

regarding batteries. i never use the powercharger. only batteries. get yourself a set of rechargable batteries the higher the mAH the longer they last. i have 4 2800mAH batteries and get about 8 hours life out of the four. i always have two on charge, and when the two in my mbr are getting low, they go straight into the charger and the charged ones into my mbr.

Do it brother! About 2-3 years ago I was (& am) in the same boat (car) and I decided to go portable. I drive a lot to different locations and have anywhere from 45 min.-2 hours, 4 days a week where I was just sitting in my car reading. I had a br-900 at the time , I think it ate 6 aa batteries and was quite big and bulky. I've used, & still use the zoom ps02, tascam 004, boss MBR & I've finnaly settled 😷 with the Tascam 008. I use the built in mics all the time and I do think I get a surprisingly good sound. If you check out my juke box you would have to go back pretty far to get out of my car. I do battle (embrace) ambient noise, so if a quiet space is what your seeking then it's about where you park. I have a tune I recorded with a busy road behind me and you can actually tell what direction the cars are passing🚕.
The br 800 seems like a great choice for the car. My 008 uses 4 AA & I get about 4 hours of a new set but I normally use rechargeable and since I have other effects I keep a bunch charged and am charging batteries all the time. They do make, an I have one, an adapter that plugs into the lighter and has an outlet on it and you could plug it in. They run your battery down so the car really needs to be running which is a noise I have trouble embracing though. The adapter itself has a small fan in it so that's another noise, if your not using the mics though I guess that wouldn't matter except for gas.regardless I really do like being portable; the car, the park, the living room or anywhere. I never leave the house without my studio and my uke.
Good luck & Rock on!
