I had a few more listens and was pleased with the backer but  the lead guitar work sounds like shite. You guys are always too polite to say this but I wish you would. I need that spark to bring out the best. I leave this with you. Thank you.    Willie

Tangled Wires

You have created a very cool ambience here Willie, you have produced some fine work in the recent past when you have dipped your toes into the Electronica genre.

As for the lead guitar work, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with it at all, the playing is excellent (not shite!) as is that creamy rich tone. The only slight critique I would offer is that it was, at one and a half minutes, a bit long and either needed breaking up with perhaps some further musical parts being added at some point to give it a bit of variation or just simply being shortened a little.

Excellent overall though and could actually imagine this with some vocals too.

Well it works for me, Willie. I think Tangled Wires might have touched on why you're disappointed with the guitar playing, though - it's almost like it's icing with no cake?

There's nothing wrong with it, for my money, it's fine playing. But it probably doesn't have the effect you were imagining when you were doing it. Put this guitar between/around some vocals and it would stand out like "hey, the boy can play!" But as the "main course", especially against an electronic backing (which is cool in itself), even guitarists are likely to feel "and?".

There is another thing - on a second listen - try mixing the guitar WAY upfront. It's the main voice here, but elements of the backing are coming out a lot louder. It sounds like the guitar is part of the backing, a lead part, but still the backing. When you stick leads on songs, you're a master of placing them just right in the mix - they're there, but they never dominate the vocal.

It's almost like you've done the same thing here, but there's no vocal, so the guitar sounds a bit apologetic. For an instrumental like this, with those guitar sounds and what you're playing, the guitar should really be going "AHA! listen to me you muthas..." (! or something of that nature!!).

Turn the guitar up obscenely loud in the mix and see how you feel - then mix it somewhere inbetween. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised :)
