Yesterday I went out to the Roland offices to pick up my brand new BR-800.
As soon as I got home I busted it open to start laying down some tracks.
I've owned a Boss GT6 MFX and messed around with the GT10 a bunch of times so I was reasonably familiar with it's operation flow and was able to knock out a few basic song sketches pretty quick. I was stoked, it sounded great out of the box!
But alas, that was where the good times ended.
Let's just say that I'm having some issues installing the drivers onto my computer.
I put the CD Rom into my computer installed the drivers and everything was looking good. I was prompted to connect the BR-800 by USB and then I was called away to attend to some totally thankless and irrelevant task by my wife so I thought I'd hit cancel and come back to it later.
When I hit cancel, it automatically executed Uninstall.exe and I figured I'd just reinstall it later.
Now every time I try to reinstall the drivers I get hit with a window saying;
"A problem may have occured.
To uninstall the driver please execute Uninstall.exe
etc etc..."

Now I have uninstalled and reinstalled countless times over the last 18 hours, from both the CD-ROM and drivers downloaded from the Roland support site, and the same cycle of shasser keeps encircling me.

I've gone through the Control Panel to try and delete the drivers from there, but they weren't to be found.

Somebody please help me. 

I'm running Windows 7 32 bit and I'm super keen to mess around with some drum grooves and look at how the unit works with the computer.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I should add that this could very well be noob related or perhaps even outright dumb fuqkery, but has any one else out there come across this issue?

Sounds like its written something in the registry. I would go to the roland site and look for an updated install kit.

I should add that I'm not a Br800 user and have never tried this particular uninstall, playing with the registry can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing - so make sure that you have a backup before any serious surgery!

I don't think you need the driver for that. I believe the driver is only needed for the Audio Interface capabilities of the BR-800. The Rhythm Editor software should work just fine without any drivers.

...I would try the good old system restore, using a restore point BEFORE your first attempt to install everything concerning the Br-800...

Thanks chaps, I had to go through the device manager and now we are connected.

Now I just need to figure out how recard onto my DAW.
I'm currently running Abelton Live, but I'm totally scoobied on how to combine the two.
Control surface?

One thing I'm very interested in is what you guys are using for drums, as most of the better tracks I've heard on this site are certainly not using the preprogrammed drum loops. I was thinking that I'd get more enjoyment out of the drum loops but they are starting to feel a tad low fat cheddar for my palate. They do work quite well as a metronome and I was thinking that I maight able to use them like JJ Cale but perhaps I'm just not that laid back.

For the last few years I've been using BFD2 for all my at home drumming needs and I'd still like to continue doing so. I'm guessing that I'd record all my guitar, bass and keys parts on thr BR-800 and then transfer them to my DAW and then lay down some drum parts.

There is just so much to learn first.

Welcome Cap, glad you got it worked out. Your tunes sound good, nice playing. I have a crappy e-kit that I prefer to play but I also really love the Iphone apps Drumjam & he Garageband drums are pretty good.

glad you got it sorted out jimbo. i recently got a br800 and love it. like you tho using it as a control surface is so far beyond my ken. tho i have connected it that way using sonar and cubase. remember to go into menu select usb, then in that menu select control surface before you start your daw. (after that it all gets a bit hazy and setting up for each daw seems a bit different).

regarding drum tracks i create my drum tracks in various ways, usually on my pc, either by building up a midi drum track in cubase 5 or using magix music maker that came preinstalled on my pc and using loops. i have an extensive collection of drum loops that i have built up over the years.

i then save the drum track as a wav and import the track directly to my br800 via the wav editor software to a stereo track, usually 7-8 v1.

as i said earlier i have had little success, due mostly to not having the time to learn, with using br800 as a control surface. but again using the wav editor i have exported the tracks from my br800 to my pc and then imported them into my daw for mixing.

looks like we both have a similar learning curve ahead of us, tho i don't think i'll ever learn to play as well as you.
