Hey thanks again all.  I'm afraid it's not very glamorous for a live setting, just 3 guys standing around in a basement, with headphones on, trying not to disturb the bass players daily fix of Coronation Street, not to mention that we probably played it a couple times for a warm up. 

I think what makes it sound a little tighter is that there is no mic bleed, so it is like tracking each instrument on it's own.  I think this would be much, much more difficult to do with acoustic instruments.  I've heard some outstanding recordings on here of full band with acoustic drums that I bet were really hard to track, so kudo's to those guys!
