Hey guys~ Just got my cheap sony mic from Ebay~ $4.99 + Free Shipping! I think it's a step up from the onboard~not to bash the onboard by any means~

So this is my first test with it...another Don Henley classic that I'm working on~I recorded the acoustic with the Sony~Then I recorded the vocals also with the Sony~instead of my usuall one shot routine~I've only heard it on headphones so far, so hopefully it sounds alright through speakers~ It's so nice to be able to just walk into any room in your house and record~I even took a pee with my headphones on, and this mic really picked it up!! I was going to use that for my sound sample, but this is a not quite as vulgar(I have vulgar pee) 8) Please Enjoy.....

Kody that was really good.  I dug mine out and opened it up and have been experimenting also.  LOL  Maybe I can post something this weekend.  The only comment I have on you is I would have like to had your voice just a tad louder.  It is such a nice one to listen to.   But that is only my thought.  Great job and beautiful song.

That sounds really, really good Kody.  I can't think of a single thing to improve on this.  Technical question: when you recorded acoustic, did you record to two tracks in stero (I assume), and then did you pan these two tracks L50R50 or something else.  Same question with your voice.  What in the way of effects?  What ever you have done here sounds perfect to me.  The beauty of doing guitar seperate from voice is you can concentrate on what you are doing better and get a better take, plus you can balance your levels better after, right.  I really love the sound of this recording for sure.  Just perfect.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Thanks guys~ Yep, BB, they're both stereo tracks and I left the pan on both at L50 R50~ Basically didn't change a thing as far as that goes...I did turn my vocal tracks up a bit, but I didn't want to go to far because they seem to get louder as the song goes on anyway~ I probably could go a little louder yet.... I used the Onboard1 effect on both and added 39% hall reverb w/ the master reverb at 50%.... And I mastered with the Premaster preset~Yep, it was nice to concentrate on just singing for once lol, laying down the guitar track was a little complicated though, but I just learned this song too, so.....I like doing it this way better~

I appreciate the comments guys! One thing I don't like, but is growing on me is: I had to capo up to the 9th fret! It's starting to sound like a uke lol...

Bravo sir, bravo indeed... You've got a stellar voice Kody, great job on that recording too. I agree with Wiley about turning up the vocal level just a tad. Or perhaps just sing a little closer to the mic.

Pretty decent investment at $5 I'd say. Cant wait to hear more! 8)

Hey, this would be a great song to try out some compression on the vocal track since it would, presumably, help even out the dynamics of the vocals (increase the quiet parts and decrease the louder parts.) I wouldnt go overboard with it as your voice sounded great just the way you did it... but it would be a great comparisson to show the other forum users just what compression can do to a track.

Just a thought. Peace...

Really relaxing! I mean seriously, if they'd play stuff like that on the radio, it wouldn't be such a damn musical pain going to work! Well, what I'm trying to say is that the recording is sweeet! And the playing is even better! You sound like a professional musician who should be touring the.. The... WORLD! Really a great job!
If you loose track over a chord progression, play as fast as you possibly can. Nobody will know. Thats how they invented bebop.

I like this, Kody.  I like the performance and the recording.  The clarity and separation works really well and for what seems to be only a minimum of effort (and a bit more thought).  Thanks for posting and explaining what you did.

Hey Kody,

I'd say your working on this song is done, my friend!
It is perfect, this is like a masterpiece!
The only thing that this song stills needs is to be added to my mp3
player...LOL.
Bravo!
