on a previous thread flash harry said my voice sounded a bit like jim kerr so I said I would do a cover of simple minds.
I picked new gold dream because I remember sitting watching a tv show called the tube and being amazed at the keyboard players runs while playing live.
it always stuck with me and the time it was out has a lot of good memories for me.
I practiced and practiced until I got that keyboard run right and by the end of the song my hand was like a claw lol.
hope you like it mike.
anyone not familiar with this Glasgow based band should check the catalogue out, they are a fantastic band.

So glad I 'm the first to hear this - listening on my phone because of the work situation....

Oh wow - just getting into the track - as expected - massive - fabulous Kenny!

I love the Jim Kerr voice... and your voice is similar, with little difference but the two are great...

Brilliant cover

I saw Simple Minds in about 1984, may even have been when they were touring this album.  Must admit I don't remember much about the gig except that we turned up late and they were already about 20 minutes into the set.  It was an arrangement I had with a friend - I went to see Simple Minds in the Apollo, he came to see SPK in the Hacienda with me (I think it was that time).

Anyway.

Point is that while I'm not familiar with the original, I'd definitely pick your cover as SM as you've done a brilliant job with it.  I use the word 'big' a lot when I'm listening to your stuff, Kenny and it's perfect for this song.

Wow ! if I'd just heard that without knowing it was you I'd just have thought it was Simple Minds ! The music, especially the keyboards is spot on that SM sound and your vocal is totally Jim Kerr.

Used to listen to them a lot back in the day and saw them play the old Wembley Stadium in 1989.

Great stuff !

nice one Kenny, i was a musical snob back then, i think i saw every gig simple minds did in Glasgow up until up until the sons and fascination tour.

by the time new gold dream came out, my nose was out of joint that our own private band had gone mainstream. and i never went to see them again.

recently i saw concert footage from this era and they where stunning. one of the best live bands ever. i feel privileged to have seen them close up and personal.

i digress, this is a belter, fancy a collab on one of their earlier ones  ;D.

Have a horrid flu bug at the mo, good days/bad days for 3 weeks now. Was working from home today, got to mid day and I was wiped. So lay down feeling tired and put this on my phone. This came on while I was resting, eyes closed, thought it was great. Very 80's, unquestionably, I couldn't place the sound/band - but now you say simple minds can totally visualise it. Super cover Kenny, really enjoyed this.
