Hi Bruno and thanks for your reply. Not wanting to sound stupid, could you attempt to re-explain the above (think: as if you're teaching this point to 4 year old!) as I don't quite follow what you mean here.
PS: Thanks for your 'Input Sens' trim tip my friend! I was doing some more familiarising earlier but was obviously recording too hot in places as some of my signals were making that little red light come on.
PPS: Thanks again for all your help here, it's really appreciated! I intend to take some time out later on to listen to your sounds - I'm very much looking forward to it! (I listened to some of AndyR's music last night and was very impressed with what I heard not to mention the sonic quality he's achieving with his BR1600. If I could get my recordings sounding 1/10th as good as that using this machine I'd be delighted!)

Nope, its just me not explaining myself properly :-) The recorded volume is controlled by two sections, the trim pots on each channel is the first section, and the overall input level knob is the second section.

The input level knob (section 2) adjusts the volume of all input sources, and the volumes determined using this knob are the actual volumes that will be recorded on tracks.

The little screen, when you are recording, you can see the input levels. Use the overall input level to set this to a reasonable level, and hey presto - you have decent track levels on the recorded track independent of the trims. :-) Eg With the Kemper - the output is hot, so the trims are near zero, but the input level is around half way.

AHa! I'm away from my machine right now but I 'think' I get that Bruno - thanks so much. A 'Kemper'? That's one of those tasty amp modelling standalone geetar preamps right? It's funny you mention that! First impressions here, my major bug bear with the BR1600 so far is those built-in guitar presets. Maybe it's just me (and the guitars I have at my disposal - what's the saying? 'A bad workman always blames his tools!') but I can't seem to find one sound from the numerous guitar presets that I REALLY dig! Because of where I reside I can't go cranking up amps so, if I stick with the 1600, I'm going to need to source some decent, quick-fix, convincing DI guitar sounds I can actually use in my recordings (BR1600 guitar presets sound great if you're into 'Metal' I guess - which I'm not). I have a friend with a Yamaha THR10. Sounds pretty good as an amp but apparently it can achieve quite a convincing valve tone when used like a pedal line in DI.

Okay - here's the trick with these- the speaker setting defaults to a setting which I hate, change that to a 2 by 12 or 4 by 12 and you get a completely different experience. You need to tweat the amp sims to get a good sound. The Kemper is a different league, I'm 2 months in, and completely gob smacked. NB My latest track was recorded and mastered on the 1600, using the Kemper.
