I've still got the box for mine - but it's HUGE, not surprised someone hasn't kept it. And you can still download the manuals at the moment...

£250 does seem a good price if it's in good condition.

Thanks folks! Well, as you might have guessed from the underlying enthusiasm that no doubt came across in my earlier posts here, 'YES!', I've gone & pulled the trigger as it were so I guess I'm now a fully paid up member of 'The BR1600 Club' (if there is indeed such a thing - let me know if there is by the way & I'll join!) OK ... well the initial post here was: 'Should I?' so .... now I have gone and bought one, feel very free to shower me with anything/everything you think I should know about this very unit (eg: links/tips/things to avoid doing/etc.) I'd also like to get user's opinions on fave vocal/bass/guitar presets along with any advice regarding the use of the builot-in Mastering presets too. I intend to have a bit of a play with it tonight to put it through its paces & check it's in good working order but I realise have a lot to learn (it's a 2006 model apparently but sadly no hard copy of the manual came with the unit so I'll look to download the .pdf from the Roland site.) So yeah, ANY user advice, good practices to adopt (and bad practices to avoid) PLUS any links to recordings YOU have made on a BR1600 model so I can get a feel for what achievable would be gratefully accepted! I wanna learn how to use this thing properly and try to get some quality results from it! CHEERS

Congrats! Googling BR-1600 pdf will quickly yield a manual. Feel free to ask questions. It's a pretty helpful community.

Peace.

Thanks Blooby! OK, first question!

Recording ACOUSTIC guitar using a microphone (I don't have an electro-acoustic and, as a rule, tend to prefer the sound of a mic'd stuff over stuff recorded D.I. using say an under-saddle piezo pickup).

So ... I notice there's the select button for recording E GTR/BASS (default: Input 1) then, to the right of that, another select button for VOCALS (default: Input 2) then one entitled: MULTI-TRACK & finally STEREO TRACKS.

I get the overall idea ie: giving you different banks of presets for each specific selection (eg: Preset 1: 'Clean JC-120' in GUITAR/BASS; Preset 1: 'Vocal Comp 1' under VOCALS; Preset 1: 'Rock Band' in MULTI-TRACK and Preset 1: 'Mono>>Stereo' for STEREO TRACKS) however, where is the bank for auditioning mic'd ACOUSTIC guitar presets?

I think I've found some in the SIMUL setting (ie: 'GUITAR/BASS' & 'VOCAL' depressed together but it appears these settings are for a D.I.'d Electro-Acoustic as opposed to a straight mic'd Acoustic. Any serving suggestions at this stage to explain how one might go about treating a mic'd Acoustic?

PS: I'm liking the first preset in VOCALS for, errr, my vocal but that's all I've had the chance to try so far (plus I note there's another 49 (!) vocal presets included in this bank alone - YIKES! Refresher learning curve starts here!)

PPS: Also, do folks using this machine tend to record WET (ie: with processing presets) or DRY?

AndyR

When I record acoustic, I just treat it like my voice - VOCALS, input 2. I tend

I tend NOT to use any effects on an acoustic guitar - just switch them off - and record it dry.

If I want to use several mics, I set it to STEREO, all the inputs are live then, and you can choose which tracks to record on (including a single mono track if you want). Watch out for the pans of the inputs...

If you use MULTI, then all the inputs are active, but 1 goes to track 1, 2 to track 2, etc...

That's a great help for starters here AndyR - thanks mate! No doubt I'll be picking your brains further over the coming ... days, weeks, (months!) if that's OK?

AndyR

No problem (except we're about to go away for a long weekend - I'll be back around wednesday!)

Nearly all my stuff is recorded, mixed, and mastered on the BR1600. I use Audacity right at the end to convert the mastered WAV to MP3, nothing else.

I sometimes use the bass COSM effects for a bass amp, but not often. Most guitars and bass are either through a Line 6 POD XTLive or a Vox Tonelab. Some guitars are a mic'd valve amp (same again, VOCAL input 2).

I run keyboards line in (STEREO input) - I just do them all live n the track, no MIDI.

Drums are the BR1600 drums - most of the time I use the Room kit, sometimes the Jazz kit.
