I was at the funeral of George Tonner today, he was a gentleman i knew and supported. George had learning disabilities but was much more than that. He would burst into song at the drop of a hat, most often he would sing "Flower of Scotland".

As he was being laid to rest in a cold and snowy graveyard in Old Kilpatrick this morning, we all sang that very song for him. R.I.P. George.

I'd also like to dedicate this to our very own Robbie Burns tho i doubt he ever sang "Flower of Scotland" tho i could be wrong.

Performed live in the living room with guitar tuning of F#, B, C#, F#, B, E.

we all sang flower of scotland
as we put you in the ground
we threw in earth and flowers
yeah i'm gonna miss you son
you touched so many people
you moved so many souls
and yes we'll all remember you
oh the snow lay by your graveside
and the ground was hard and cold
and we all sang our hearts out
like the way you used to do
you touched so many people
you moved so many souls
and yes we'll all remember you

James what a lovely tribute to George.
I think it's kinda moving that everyone sang his favorite song at his burial.

Thats a heck of a tuning....what you call that, Open F#7 I guess.  Moving song, it tells the story of the emotion you were all feeling.  I love the vocal melody.

Edit:  (on closer inspection it looks like Open F#7sus4, wicked looking tuning)

i've no idea Dave. i was looking for an alternative tuning for the guitar and that combination sounded nice. came upon the tuning by accident, i'm sure i wasn't the first to come up with it. great thing is for a crap guitarist like me, i only had to hold down one string with one finger for 90% of the time, tho for one chord i had to use two fingers. ;D cheers.

I went looking on the web and can't find any references to this tuning.  I think you may have stumbled on something special here.  We will have to call this the ORH tuning, you own this one.  I must try this one for myself.  You have a fantastic experimental nature when it comes to music, thats part of your special charm and why your stuff sounds so interesting all the time.

Jim, it looks like you have stumbled upon Turkish oud tuning, but yours is tuned up 2 frets from a standard oud.

Quotewith a turkish oud : the standard tuning E-A-B-e-a-d => d'Addario J-95 oud string set.

Time to get out your Turkish Coffee see what you come up with on this tuning.

Sorry to hijack your thread Jim.......I get really excited about alternate tunings......... guitar nerd.  back to the music......

A touching and tender tribute for your friend George...I love people who break into song at the drop of a hat (my grandfather was one - especially once he got a drink in him).

I agree with Dave, this open tuning sounds great, and it goes really well with your vocals.
