I had initially intended to cover one of Rob's songs as a tribute, but then this song came out of the blue - nearly complete - just a few days ago as I noodled around with some synth patches in Absynth 5. The rest of the lyrics (some of which were borrowed from some of the titles of Rob's songs) came together fairly quickly, and then the guitars and bits of piano.

In addition to being an enormously talented singer and guitar player, Robbie was also generous and kind with his support of the folks here at Songcrafters. Although he and I never met in person, we would message each other occasionally, and became friends on Facebook. I felt that I knew Rob as a friend, and I learned a lot from him about music, among other things. For his presence, person, and example, I am thankful.

This one's for you, Robbie - with gratitude,
cuthbert

Thank You, Friend

In the song of songs
It was time for you to move along
From where you once began

I can still hear singing
In the music of the spheres
And it's a long, long way from Clare to Here

Thank you, friend...
Thank you, friend...

When the Sun Set Down
And there was no one else around
An Angel's voice was ringing clear

To the Dark Side of the Sun
From where we once begun
So glad that you were here

Thank you, friend...
Thank you, friend...

Well done cuthbert. I love the astral, almost ambient synth sounds. And the lyrics are a great tribute to Rob. I like how you incorporated his song titles into the lyrics. And they're sung in a way that fits the music beautifully.
