Here http://tascam.com/product/dr-v1hd/specifications/#rec_time/ it seems to say that the tascam with a 32 gig micro sd card I'll only get a maximum of 16 min. of video?????

here http://zoom.co.jp/products/q2hd/ it says  the zoom gets 40min. with a 2gb  & 40 hours with a 128gb.
that seems to be a significant difference. Am I understanding this correctly??

Yes, the Tascam figures are definitely in hours and minutes. It says so above the chart.

The numbers quoted for the Zoom are with AAC audio. AAC is a lossy compression standard similar to MP3, so it requires a lot less storage for the audio portion of your recordings. The Tascam doesn't have compressed audio, so you can't compare the recording times directly. Instead, it uses only 16-bit or 24-bit WAV audio with no data compression.

Both recorders have several options for video resolution, frame rate, audio sample resolution (16-bit/24-bit), and audio sampling frequency (44.1kHz, 49kHz, 96kHz). All of these options affect the amount of storage required for a recording. Given the same settings in both recorders (for example, 720p at 30fps with 16-bit 44.1kHz uncompressed audio) the amount of storage required should be the same.

Hi Hook. I don't know much about video devices but an internet friend (Harry who is from Florida) uses a Zoom Q3 all the time for live stuff. He's always saying that what it lacks in capturing video is made up by it's audio quality. Here's a youtube tube link to his latest live film. I'm not sure it will help or not because this is taken with a Q3 and not an Q2.

Have you thought of a iPhone I have a 4s which cost me £90 second hand  and the video and sound is pretty good and IMovie app is cheap and easy to use too

Thanks, 64- not sure why I was so convinced it was minutes, I'm a tad bit daft every know & then.

Farrell- The Q3 might be a contender if I could find a better deal on it but I'm still very fixated on the rotating camera on the tascam.

Yea, I have some footage I took with my 5s that looks pretty good & I plan on trying to edit it all together but time isn't exactly on my side. I then went the next day & tried to record at work(20min.) and it couldnt handle it. I deleted all the kids games, tons of pics and videos; tried again and it still couldn't capture more than 8 min. It might be all the music apps I have on the phone, not sure but I need to be able to rely on the take. I also want it recorded onto a SDcard or micro sd for easy access on different computers.
Outside of work applications, I envision making a multi screen video of me tracking in my car, so some of the screens will be me using the phone . I guess I could get another phone but I like that rotating camera & I like gadgets.

Money is a fleeting thing in my household so I might have to wait a week, we will see. I'm still leaning towards the Tascam.
Thanks guys!
