Got a microphone over my break and wanted to try in on an acoustic. This is off of Kevin Gilbert's brilliant Shaming of the True concept album. Forgive the vocals.

Parade by Kevin Gilbert

My name is Johnny Virgil,
I play this here guitar,
I play it for myself.
Got a heart that's full of music
A head that's full of songs
Got a love for nothing else.

Gonna take a look around me
Parades are marching by
Of the people who have made it
who are never gonna die

My name is Johnny Virgil
And I'm gonna be a Star.
Gonna get my share of fame.
Everybody's gonna love me,
Everybody's gonna care
Everyone will know my name

I've been listening to Dylan
I've been listening to the Dead
I've been listening to the music
that plays inside my head
I've been listening to the Beatles
I've been listening to the Who
And they don't know it yet,
But they're gonna listen to me too

My name is Johnny Virgil
Everybody did you hear
My name is Johnny Virgil

Great clarity on the acoustic - and absolutely no need to apologise for the vocals.  I wish I could sing that well!

What mic did you get?

I went for a Rode NT1 (the new one in black). This one is not as quite as bright as the old NT1 or the NT1A from what I understand. I like it on the acoustic but can't make up my mind about vocals because I hate my voice. I have a 57 I think I prefer for vocals, and I have been longing for an SM7B. Some day...

I should mention I ran it through a Presonus Eureka mic pre as well, so it's not just mic --> interface.

Thanks for listening, folks.

This mic is absolutely wonderful, Blooby, many congrats for your choice!

And...yes, James, I agree with you, your vocals deserve absolutely a good mic. And this one IS a good mic indeed.

Dude, if you sing this at our next gig, I will back it up with a sweet harmony.

"Forgive the vocals"????  What a crock!  The vocals were right on.  Shut up and sing!  You just need confidence and practice.  Get on with it.

I don't know this song Blooby but I sure do like it! The NT1 sounds great on the acoustic and also on your voice. It does sound a bit darker on the acoustic compared to my NT1A. I don't use the NT1A at all on my lead vocals because it's a bit too shimmery but it works well for me on backing vocals. You should sing more because after hearing this performance, there's no reason to hold back. Great purchase on the NT1!
