Another Christmas quickie...yes, the old carol which originally comes from the German 'Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht'. I didn't start off trying to make it sound strange: it just sort of turned out that way.

A few days ago, I got this interesting Kontakt sound set from Hideaway Studios which was sampled from an electromechanical, tube-amplified carillon made in 1946 - it's got a very festive-sounding bell tone. I added some music box and mellotron woodwinds, and then due to some slight tuning differences among the samples, things started sounding a little strange. Rather than run away from the strange, I decided to embrace it.

Dedicated to my late grandfather, who used to love to sing 'Silent Night' on Christmas Eve as well as New Year's Eve - once the liquor started flowing...

Happy New Year and thanks for listening,
cuthbert

Great-sounding bells! I wondered what the whirring sound was but after checking out the demos on the Hideaway Studios site, I realized it's the Cosmic Music Box.

That music box sound, the whirling, gives this a wind up record player feel. But i do like those bells. It sounds good.
