I enjoyed reading it but I'm a bit puzzled. It is understandably bad to say something like, "he's good for a black guy." But this article is basically saying that it isn't good enough to say Jimi Hendrix is the best rock guitarist of all time. You have to say Jimi Hendrix is the best rock guitarist of all time and don't forget he was black, too.

I do believe race was inseparable from the man, the musician and the legacy. No, I don't think that you have to remind people he was black to appreciate his musicianship. In fact, I think one of the reasons I can say he was one of, if not the greatest, rock musicians of all time is that his race doesn't need to be included or excluded.

All that being said, I do think it is important for people to realize the effects of his formative years. It's distinctly unique compared to most rock guitarists, that's for sure.
