I saw the title, I saw who did this post, and clicked on the PLAY button.... ahh, it's wonderful!  A classic fantastic song and very nicely done here with the instruments and Mr Higgins unique vocal interpretation.  Very, very nice job fellas!

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

I absolutely love this cover , there is something quite magical about James's voice , however I'd like to know more about how the backing instruments were done and that comes down to you Alf , I take it the main guitar was played by yourself and the other instruments were done in band in a box , how much control do you have over the melody line

Thanks everybody!  :D

yes, correct, guitar myself.
strings, cello & organ: BIAB
flute: myself, Godin with Fishman TriplePlay driving a VST instrument

Now; when you ask "how much control do you have in the melody line", sorry, could you please explain me better your question, I don't understand...

Top-notch vocals from James (as we all come to expect - I expect nothing less :-) !) and super instrumentation Alfredo. I swear there is a flutist playing on this The instrumentation is perfect, super arrangement, subtle use of instruments and placement and great sounds. Awesome.

Grazie Bruno.

These your words are for me very, very precious and important, because the most difficult thing when using virtual instruments is that you have to *THINK* not as a guitar player (in my case), but as a flutist, trumpet player etc. This is the difficult task.

Ciao!  :)

It's a beautiful thing.  I too would have believe that was a real flautist, and I'm a sucker for flutes, me.  Nice bit of singing too, Mr H.

One tiny thing about the panning of the organ, which was a tad too far left for my taste, but no biggy.

Overall very well played and recorded, a great thing to listen to

Great collab guys !! Excellent music Alfredo !! Sounds so professional !!! And great vocals from James too. Sound a bit different here imo. Brings out a new quality in his voice !

I was wondering the same. BIAB has so many great instruments it seems, and I too wonder to what degree can you "control" it. E.G. at ~3 minutes there's a cello melody in the right channel and again at the end. Did you write the notes for that melody or do you put together phrases (similar to what we do on the BR's when programming  drums)?
