I'm coming right out of my comfort zone next weekend at a gig and cutting my gear down to a minimum as it's becoming a real pain in the ar*e and limbs to carry the gear to and from gigs.
With technology at an all time high I did consider putting my line 6 direct into the p.a but to be honest I think it would be a step too far as I'm only using to speakers on poles for vocals and drums etc,no monitors.
Anyway,I diverse.
I have bought a small fender mustang amp and a stand to put it on,a small boom mic stand and I'm going to mic it up with my AKG condenser mic and put it through the p.a .....so hears hoping I don't miss my 2x12 behind me.
I've got to say the fender amp in the house is incredibly load so it may be enough for this old rocker to hear ;D
Anybody use similar set ups?

I love Fender amps - cranked they sound amazing. When I used to gig, I would use the Fender Hotrod (40W), which never got above 2, and miked sounded lovely - so not a bad way to go :-)

Kenny, I think it's a wise move not to go through the PA with the Line 6, especially without monitors. I did that once with a POD into the PA for a try out at a small venue. I was trying to minimize my gear because it was just one short set and I didn't want to hassle with dragging an amp and pedal board along. It was a big mistake because I couldn't hear myself.  Plus no sound coming from behind me was just too odd to be comfortable with.....so my playing sucked for the try out.  It was the one and only time I ever did that...and we didn't get the gig to boot!

I gigged with a Fender Deluxe Reverb for many years and that even got too heavy to haul so I got me a Fender Pro Jr. and used that for about 5 years. It was light, loud and easy to mic up if I needed more sound.

I think the Fender Mustang will work well for you. Is it a I or II? I have a Mustang I but I've not gigged with it. I think it would sound great mic'ed up. It sounds like you are going with the right set up. Good luck with the gig!

Thanks Farrell ,ill fill you guys in with the outcome of this.
I've got to admit(and old rotten head will confirm this)but I like to play with volume I.e feedback on leads etc as I'm from the mick ronson school of music  ;D and I'm a bit apprehensive but your right mate, got to have that amp behind you to at least feel the vibe.
I've normally got a crate 2x12 behind me ,before that a Hughes and kettner single speaker attax 80
(loud by the way) but a heavy wee amp to cart about.
I'm cutting the guitars down to 2 per gig,it's really to make the gig easier to set up and take down as the alternative is keep the same set up and take 1and a half hours to get it into the transport for home.
We cut the pa down and it sounds fine for pubs/bars etc so anythings a bonus.

I remember a gig that we didn't have enough time to sound check for. I had a (and still have ) a Marshall JMC900 head, and a Marshall 4 by 12 cab (in the shed at the bottom of the garden). I hit the first chord, and I felt my jeans being pushed forward :-) Was expecting the rest of the band to turn around and shout "turn it down", they didn't so I carried on :-) I enjoyed that gig!
