Two layers of Tanglewood acoustic (recorded through the MBR mic), vocals, bass, various Garageband elements (drums, organ, strings, synths, sequencers), and a couple of sound fx added in Audacity.

Quite a lot going on compared to my more stripped-back approach recently.

The title comes from my favourite painting - 'I and the village' by Marc Chagall, but the lyric is about more ancient country things, superstitions, and my own nostalgia.

Beneath the yew trees a Viking sleeps
500 years of dream
And the nightjars steal away the milk
From the lower field of sheep

My anglo saxon sideburns need
to feel themselves at home
where the green Ophelia water weeds
are flowing in my soul

I and the village in the darkness on the green
I and the village as the sun dips below the trees
I and the village through the cornfields in the breeze

More crows than you've ever seen
In the stubble of your dreams
Like the blur of a dragonflies wing
In the twilight

I'd travel all around the world
To end up right back here
The signposts on the grassy verge
The barley for the beer

Goddess Hecate hear my cry
So much more it be
Hurt them though they shall not die –
This hex I give to thee

I and the village in the darkness on the green
I and the village as the sun dips below the trees
I and the village through the cornfields in the breeze

More crows than you've ever seen
In the stubble of your dreams
Like the blur of a dragonflies wing
In the twilight

The bracken is rising again
Curly green croziers and spears for my friends

I and the village...

i had a look at and read about the painting that inspired you. right now i don't get the painting, but that could change, a few abstract paintings i have hated then something clicked in my head and i got them.

anyway back to the song, have got it bluetoothed to my stereo from my phone and it sounds fabulous. has a very english prog rock feel at times, genesis comes to mind, but the chorus conjures up the kinks circa village green society. but it is most definitely a greeny song.

i absolutely love it, so much going on, got it on repeat. hopefully it will help me get the painting too.

oh did you watch that genesis documentary on bbc2 perchance?

So sweet again! The chorus is very catchy and the organ additions are just great. Some prog rock vibes around 3 minutes...sounds very nice! Great job, Tim!

At first I had to find Mark Chagall's painting on the net...quite interesting source of inspiration and excellent final result!

Real good Greeny! I like the proggy elements to this and the olde lyric style is perfect the way it creates the imagery. I like it all!

You can't by this kind of music, you have to be a part of this community - and I am glad I am.

This is fabulous in every way - it's like Beatles and Genesis had a baby and it was green.

Love it.

Simply Dreamy...... Greeny.
What a lushes sound and beautiful production.
I'm impressed with how much is going on but it still feels airy and open, not cluttered at all.
That takes talent my friend.

Thanks again... off to Google, I go.  :-[  ;D

Sometimes listening to your work, takes on the feel of being schooled by a master.
The way you lay out your stories with such an imaginative stroke... is simply brilliant.

My Hats off to you, mi amigo

Great song Greenie

I was thinking about a Pre-Raphaelite setting - Gabrielle Rossetti walking along a stream with William Morris's wife and in the background John Millaise is painting Ophelia.

Beautiful work.
