These gadgets work nicely to protect the fingerboard from scratches and file marks when filing and dressing frets.
And the price is right.

Warning: filing down worn frets is only half the job. You still require fret files to restore the crown after leveling work is complete. If in doubt, take it to an instrument repair shop.

Farrell, these fingerboard protectors are definitely worth having in your instrument tool kit.
The ones with thin slots work well on banjo and mandolin frets.

I bought a set many years ago and they still look like new.
I have installed frets on numerous guitars and basses over the years, and I've never needed to
re-fret any of my guitars. I use very light gauge strings (.007 to .038) and finger-pick with a light touch so fret wear
is light to non-existent.

Of course, there will always be the knuckle draggers that like to use number one welding cable for their bass strings.
Better them than us.

These are great - have been meaning to buy some, always good to polish up the frets every now and then!

I like the stuff that Stewmac sell, and I have bought from them in the past. The stuff arrives in the UK, no bother.

Their radiussed sanding  blocks are rather good.
