The Fractal Axe FX is cheaper (but not cheap), and I have been digging my AVID Eleven Rack quite a bit (mine was $300 used).  Still not cheap but better than the Line 6, Johnson J-Station, M-Audio stuff, Zoom and Digitech stuff I have tried.

NB the Fractal FX Axe 2 is over 2K in the UK, whereas the Kemper comes in at 1.1K? And the Mrs says, spend what you like :-) The kids like porridge, honest ....
