Dark acoustic folk. This song is exactly where I want to be, stylistically speaking.

Two layers of Takamine acoustic (recorded through the MBR mic with live backing vox), Thumjam pipe organ, and Vocals. Just 4 tracks through the MBR with some pitch-shifted church bells added in Audacity.

There's also a live version on video. Just me and a 12-string. The filming is as dark as the subject matter...  :D

I listened to the live version in the first instance and absolutely loved it. You guitar playing is very interesting in the way you have a hybrid style of playing, mixing up strummed and arpeggio parts in a way that I guess is derived from being self taught.

The studio version is exceptional in every sense and I do particularly like the little breakdown where the church bells kick. The song has a great melody throughout and is very accessible for the listener whilst at the same time maintaining a dark mystery to it.

After a few listens this is knocking on the door of my Greeny top ten!

Liked the halo on the live version by the way ;)

^^^^ yep - all self taught! I can't fingerpick, so have developed my own hybrid way of filling the sound out using plectrum arpeggios and lots of chord embellishments with my left hand. And thanks for the kind words - really appreciate it :-)

This is knocking on the door of my Greeny top songs, too! I really loved the church bell spot. It has very weird (on positive way) feel! Well panned tracks and top class arrangement! Just a suberb tune! Two listenings in a row...and pie pod bound!

The vid is just genius and artistic! Is the fluttering light from a candel! Really nice live performance!

It's not a candle - it's a vintage film effect on an app called 8mm that can emulate old film styles (even flickering 1920's newsreels!). It's quite a cool little tool.

Thanks for the kind words - so happy that anyone 'gets' this one!

Big fan here... great atmosphere... vocals and lyrics remind me of David Gilmour in parts

Oh this is the ticket! It's a a great place for you to be stylistically Greeny. I would go out of my way to see you perform this song live in a pub with a good whiskey in my hand. The video with the 12 string just furthers the darkness of this song. Dark yet it also has a soothing (maybe hypnotic is the right word) on me. I like it and you should go here more often!
