I received a comment that I should do another cover with the guitar, mando, cajon trio. So here goes:

Grateful released this song on the album American Beauty in 1970.  Jerry Garcia wrote the music, and frequent Dead lyrisist Robert Hunter wrote the words during a particularly prolific period in London.

David Grisman sat in for the mandolin and later complained that he wasn't allowed to do much.  I had no such restriction so ran rampant with my still fairly new, 1941 Kalamazoo mando.

Thanks for listening.

Let it be known, there is a fountain, that was not made, by the hands of men.

I'm glad you didn't have any restrictions :) This sounds absolutely fabulous !

That mandolin sounds so full and your playing is impeccable.

Well done Rolow! Well done indeed.

Oh, and the vocals and production : stellar !!!!

Oh well ........

Yep. The mando, guitar and cajon all sounding good, making a really nice unplugged acoustic ensemble. This seems to be in a good vocal range for you too. Fine job and a pleasant visit with an old favorite tune!

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

I'm not fa,iliar at all with the Grateful Dead, just before my time, but I totally enjoyed this. Well played and well sung !

Ahh, wonderful.  You captured some of the frailty of Jerry's voice on this one, which is a compliment. I want John (Lurker) and myself to do this song live, but I have thrown quite a bit of Dead at him.  Must bide my time.

This was a great way to end my day. Just great. The cajon was perfect for this.

captures spirit of original, very good vocals. American Beauty is a great album I tried to learn sugar Magnolia last year (a great song) ,but it was to much for me. to be honest half way through forgot I was listening to a cover...well done haha!

Greeny

I'm a sucker for the folky shimmer of a mandolin, and this is exquisite. Everything is so intimate-sounding and perfectly balanced. Just lovely!
