If you haven't heard of it, Indaba Music is a great site that facilitates musical collaborations.  They have an online mixing console, and you can invite specific musicians to collaborate based on their tastes, demos, and influences.  It's like Facebook with a creative purpose.

You can't record directly into their system.  For that you need some kind of home recording setup--such as an MBR.
[Update: See the posting below regarding their new console which will allow for direct real-time recording.]

If you join a session, you can (1) download the reference track, (2) import it into your MBR, (3) record your contribution on the MBR, (4) export it to an MP3 or a WAV, (5) upload it to the session, and (6) mix your work with any of the other tracks created by members of the same session.

It's very cool.

This just in:
QuoteIndaba is getting ready to launch a completely new, and might I add, awesome console! We have been working closely with Sun Microsystems in creating this amazing JavaFX application. This innovative digital audio workstation will not only allow you to upload, edit, and mix your music, but will include new features - such as high-quality recording of uncompressed audio directly to Indaba, real-time non-destructive effects, a clips library full of Creative Commons-licensed loops, and the abilitiy to drag the console from the browser to your desktop and work offline.

So long Audacity?
