A cover of a song by one of my favourite bands from the Peel Session on 20th November 1985.

I have taken quite a departure from the frenetic sound of the original as I started to play this on my keyboard the other night and thought that it was sounding ok in a more mellow style so went with it

This is all me I am afraid, so you good people will have to endure my vocals on this occasion ;)

As this song will be unfamiliar to most have put the lyrics on here too

Unemployment's rising in the Chigley end of town
And it's spreading like pneumonia
Doesn't look like going down
There's trouble at the fire station someone's had the sack
And the lads are going to launch a scheme get rid of Captain Flack
Tell PC McGarry to get himself a mate
And arm themselves with CS gas
They're gonna be out late
We've had Cant conformism since 1966
And now subversion's in the air in the shape of flying bricks
Someone get a message through to Captain Snort
That they'd better start assembling the boys from the fort
And keep Mrs Honeyman right out of sight
'Cos there's gonna be a riot down in Trumpton tonight
All this aristocracy has really got to stop
We can overthrow the surgery and kidnap Dr Mopp
And Chippy Minton's Socialists could storm the Market Square
And make plans to assassinate our autocratic Mayor
Windy Militant leads his Basque-like corn grinders to war
With windmill sails and bombs with nails they smash the town hall door
But Snorty and his boys arrive with one big erstwhile crew
Whereupon they bring about a military coup
Someone get a message through to Captain Snort
That they'd better start assembling the boys from the fort
And keep Mrs Honeyman right out of sight
'Cos there's gonna be a riot down in Trumpton tonight
Oh, someone get a message through to Captain Snort
That they'd better start assembling the boys from the fort
And keep Mrs Honeyman right out of sight
'Cos there's gonna be a riot down in Trumpton tonight

I'm not familiar with this song Tangled Wires so it as fresh to my ears as can be. I like the stripped down beginning with just keys and vocal but when that deep, deep bass and drums come in they just rock and bounce my sub-woofer all around in a good way...a nice one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New to me & spectacular it is!! All I know about the Peel Sessions is that when I was a kid my favorite bands all had import albums titled "Peel Sessions" with like 4 songs on it for around $30. It really pissed me off, but this tune doesn't, well done.
Rock on!

I like the eerie feel to it and the combo of your organ playing/bass sounds and your vocals!

Never heard this before, but I know Trumpton and it's inhabitants intimately! It's a brilliant concept for a song, and I love how you perform it. The sparse, reedy organ part has a very English folky feel, and it's magic when the bass, drums and guitar kicks in. This is so beautifully done! Bravo!!!!

Brilliant memories, TW, love your version, works well stripped back like this.  Nice to have an excuse to go back and listen to the original again.

This video I found actually has John Peel introducing the session track...
