I too have an Apogee Jam, and it's absolutely OK, both for iPad and Mac.

But anyway today the level of these small guitar interfaces is very, very high. Very good alternatives today to the Apogee jam are the Sonuus i2M Musicport

...and the Line6 SonicPort (that includes a very good software for iPad, in Amplitube-style):

I have them both, and they are great interfaces. But the iRig Pro is another possible good choice too.

I just bought the iRig HD, works really well, downloaded Amplitube and some of the fender amps, all good, definately will use for recording. The drum loops on Amplitube also sound of good quality.

According to the "In The Box" section on these two pages, the iPad mini comes with a "Lightning to USB Cable" and a "USB Power Adapter". That should be all you need.

Not sure what connector is on the end of the Lightning to USB cable. If it's a standard Type A receptacle, then you should be able to plug the nanokey's USB cable straight into it.

I think that's what you get since I've seen it in a few photos on the web. Here's an example.

However, if the Lightning to USB cable has a Type A plug on the end as in the following picture, then you'll need to get a suitable adapter.
