BR900CD Compressors

Hi All, can anybody offer their views on the built in Insert effects: MIC/compressors?
I can get good compression with the BOSS cmp, but struggle with too much limiter, and the EQ isn't as clear in the mid range.

Ok here's the update, I'm getting much better compression and control over the limiter when I use the Rack160 compressor... which is great.
But my question is, has anybody tried using an outboard compressor in the input path?
i.e. MIC into say a BEHRINGER MDR4600 into the BR900 input.

(Reason for asking is that o/b effects gear would normally be plugged into an 'insert' on a channel... of course on the BR900 we don't have an 'insert' connection)

Can't comment on the BR900 - but I thought the in Mic compressor recently on the 1600 was surprising noisey but I don't how that compares to a rack compressor - but am very interested on peoples experiences here as well.
