Here's my cover of the 1957 song The Walk, by Jimmy McCracklin.

I'd not heard the song (or the artist) before going through 64G's excellent list and again I thank 64 for taking the time to do that - I've discovered a lot of excellent music in this fest.  When I heard the song I couldn't get the hook out of my head and knew I had to cover it.

It's the first time I've used my actual bass in ages, I recorded it into Garageband through the 50's Rock'n'Roll amp sim.  I also recorded the guitar, the vocal and the drums (DM-1 over inter-app) through that sim too.  I wanted to get a lo-fi, vintage sound (I even went to the trouble of not changing my vintage guitar strings, which have been on the guitar for going on two years now).

Bass - Squier Jaguar
Guitar - '82 Tokai Breezysound (Tele)
Drums - DM-1 over interapp audio
Piano - GarageBand
Vocal - some old timer with poor spatial awareness
Overdrive - Distortion - Hyperactivity

Never heard the song before either, but this seems so authentically from that era with the lo-fi sound you have expertly created

Particularly impressed with that bass sound, haven't experimented with the bass through Garageband before, but on the strength of what I am hearing here will give it a go, and talk about meticulous detail in not changing your strings just to help create a certain sound!

I see what you mean about the song's hook...it's stuck in my head now too!

Pretty damn good this!

WOW !!

Great idea using that 50's amp sim for everything to create that sound. Works really well, and the performance is so good too!!

Well done !

I've had to refer to a 50's slang website to find something suitable to say about this,

Nick, you hep cat, this is a hot plate ! Supermurgitroid !

Which in modern parlance translates something like ' Sick recording dude ! Dope !'

Love it - it sounds ancient!!

Holy shit, this sounds fantastic! Don't know the original, but you certainly captured the rockabilly feel with the performance and tone of that 50s amp sim.

Super-impressive - I loved it!

Thanks all.  I continue to be grudigingly amazed at what GarageBand can do.  It won't write the song for you, but it does make it easier to make the song you want.  Why did I spend that grand three years ago when what I use now cost me £6 (and has probable made what I did spend a grand on more or less worthless)?

I haven't really explored it too much myself.  The good thing is you can record and then play about with the sims and settings later.  Shame there's no actual bass amp sims though.  Don't think there are anyway.

And every time I see that Les Paul in your avatar Pete I get the GAS again.
