This one just arrived out of nowhere. It's weird how that happens sometimes - almost like it was already written, and you're just covering / remembering it.

Very folky. Just two layers of acoustic guitar and vocals. Everything recorded through the MBR's mic.

Lyrics...

The first life I lost was down by the old mill
Dragged under by the water wheel
in the white churning foam

The second life I lost was from drinking
All those hard green bottles
Raised to my lips

The third life I lost was from a bullet
Shot by a rifle
From the enemy's ranks

Lucky I had nine lives
Luck I had nine lives

The fourth life I lost was from hemlock
A poisoned keepsake
From a lover I crossed

The fifth life I lost was from famine
When the harvest first faltered
Then rotted away

The sixth life I lost was from a virus
The sickness dragged by body
To the mouth of a grave

Lucky I had nine lives
Luck I had nine lives

The seventh life I lost was from melancholy
Hung from the branches
Of a sycamore tree

The eighth life I lost was out in the ocean
The boat listed sidewards
Then sank to her doom

Lucky I had nine lives
Luck I had nine lives

The ninth life I lost was forever........

Wow, this is timeless, it's the kind of song you feel you know even the first time you hear it!

This is also the second song today I keep singing after the player has stopped.

Seems like an age since we have been treated to a new Greeny tune!

The acoustic work really stood out to me, the combination of the strummed and arpeggio parts give it such a rich and full sounding quality, and I love that chord change into the chorus!

Great vocal, sounds a bit different (in a very good way) than usual, perhaps it because it is you're tailoring it to suit the folk feel of the song, and it does seem to sit ever so slightly further back in the mix.....and it all sounds so spectacularly spot on!

Great song, it does have that new but familiar quality about it. Different way for you to deliver brother but strong as ever.

I'm digging the direct folky feel to the lyrics. Very catchy chorus, too. Pristine performance, recording, and production - it's a winner!
