1-2-3
Len Barry, co-written by John Madara and David White

Cover of the multi-million song from 1965 by Len Barry.

And a real joy to do, I must admit.  This one jumped out at me when I was going through the songs on the JLJ.   I realised I have an easy listening version (by the Percy Faith Orchestra) on my iPod, so I thought I'd try to bring in some of that too.

Please see new version towards the bottom of this page.  Ta.

Tangled Wires

I am only familiar with the "upbeat" version of this song, so this version was always going to new to me.

This is excellent, it really works well in this style, and I love the piano (was that from Garageband?) and the wonderfully flowing nature of your vocal.

Very nice!

Thanks, TW.  It's all GarageBand apart from the drums which are partly DM-1 drum machine over inter-app audio.  It's mostly true to the original except I couldn't do the brass section stuff so had to think on my feet for those bits.

I dig this Nick, great choice for you. I can definitely hear that Percy Faith Orchestra influence, & your vocal is so cool & natural, well done!

This is totally fab!!

Thought I didn't know the song from its title, but recognized it the instant you started singing. Love the panned backing vocals too, and I'm digging the arrangement (never heard the Percy Faith version, though) - it all moves along nicely.

Get orff my fest !!!

Seriously Nick its nice of you to join me and Hook !

Nice track - got the 60's vibe plus your own touch to it - enjoyed it.

I used Garageband smart keys on both my JL Jukebox tracks - its an amazing app although I've only mastered the basics so far.  You need to give me a few tips !

I wasn't particularly happy with the vocal in the mix - too strident and forward.  So I've made a new mix with the vocal dropped back a touch.  I also changed the reverb setting to Club.  I think this is better now.

new mix with easier vocal

Was going to compare to the first version, but it's gone so will have to rely on memory!

Sounds pretty good to me Nick, and I think the reverb effect, together with the vocal sitting a little more in the background, gives it more of an "old school" feel and sound.

Enjoyed listening to this once again.
