This is a song I wrote when I was in school*, some 30 years ago or so.  The only recording of it dated back to around 1989 or so.  I decided to do a new version.

It's a song that illustrates what a weird teenager I was. I'm not anymore - now I'm a weird grown up (or I'd like to think so, anyway)

Faceless, tired and out of breath
Making love and breeding death
The leather thighs and the velvet glove
And in your eyes I'll not find love

Just one nail in my coffin

In your sleep the blood will stain
But pleasure must be tinged with pain
So crack the whip, go on my dear
The scars will be my souvenir

And one nail in my coffin

The walls are dark and the sink is cracked
But you know I'll keep coming back
The velvet glove and the iron mask
This time it will be my last

The last nail in my coffin

*Or maybe first year at uni

damn this is cool, real catchy and grooving for such a dark subject matter.  I love the synths.  One could almost see this as a lost Ian Curtis song, found stuffed in a sock drawer.................wicked..............found by the boys and recorded for a New Order album...................really wicked.

Written in the 80's...I can really hear the blast from the past! Very nice soundscape. Agree with New Order comparison. Nice job, Nick!

Very interesting and deep sounding song this, has a cool combination of having elements of an 80's sound and vibe with the added touch of some modern day electronica.

Loving both the low driving sound of the synths and the way that the higher synths float over the top. Were all the synth sounds from GarageBand, as certainly seemed to recognise one or two, especially the one that sounds like an 80's video game?

Quite an addictive song after a few listens, this is very fine work.

We so listened to a lot of the same music growing up brother! This is spectacular, those synths are masterfully done, you so should have been touring with The Cure!

Because the Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

Dark and moody song. Music and lyrics are so good together. Not what I usually listen to but I love this. It's kind of haunting.

Thanks for the comments, all.

It's interesting about the New Order and Cure comparisons.  I was listening to those a lot at the time, I'd always pegged this as coming mainly from Juju era Banshees and some Echo and the Bunnymen.

And Hook - yes, we were by the sound of it. :)
