Quote from: Tangled Wires on June 08, 2014, 02:32:56 AMI got lulled by the mellow opening verse, and then bang that chorus kicks in and changes the mood and tempo of the song completely.

Great song Nelson, those choruses and bridges just want to make you get up and dance and the verses provide a real cool contrast to these.

A choir in the choruses would certainly add something extra special to already special song.

I like Somadat a lot!

Appreciate you checking it out; indeed I was going for contrast of a sort between verse and chorus, as well as gospel type energy in places.  :) :)

Quote from: oldrottenhead on June 08, 2014, 03:39:43 AMi watched a documentary about bill withers on bbc4 on friday night, (what a proud passionate man he is). i immediately thought of you, nelson you are out of the same mould as mr withers. brilliant song and your voice is incredible.

Quote from: kenny mac on June 08, 2014, 04:25:47 AMNice song there.
I would love to hear a slowed down version of it,it has definitely got a great vibe to it.
A choir would be great.
Well done.

The first version was indeed slower. This arrangement was a test of my ability to produce a high energy Gospel type song, which included trying my hand at the piano. Thx 4 swinging by.

Quote from: Redler on June 08, 2014, 06:26:03 AMFine songwriting and performing! Loved the drum arrangement - works well!! Brilliant lyric, too!

Thank you for giving it a spin and for your kind words.

Quote from: cuthbert on June 08, 2014, 10:02:51 AMWow!!! Mind officially blown...  :o 8)

Tons of energy in this, Nelson - love the strong gospel feel in the chorus, which also happens to be catchy as hell! I'm also in awe of the piano basis of the song - deep respect for playing so well. Fantastic vocals, too - you're really opening up on this one.

One of your best, I think.

One of the few times I really just let go. I arranged it as though I were preparing it for some huge choir or band and I performed it as though it were do or die... my one shot.

Quote from: Jarle on June 08, 2014, 12:13:06 PMThis is brilliant songwriting, the tempo changes works really well. I agree a choir would be great.

Thank you very much, Jarle.

Quote from: T.C. Elliott on June 08, 2014, 06:22:59 PMI love the sound of that piano. How'd you get it? But of course, as always, the highlight is your vocal.  There is a character in your voice that just can't be replicated, can't be auto-tuned, can't be taught I don't think.

It's one of those deals where I just plugged the keyboard into my recorder and went for it.
Thanks for the kind words.

Quote from: Bluesberry on June 09, 2014, 07:35:40 AMSo good Mr.Nelson......so good.....bloody good...yeah love the chorus.....so good.

How bloody generous you are, my friend. Thank you :)

Quote from: Hook on June 09, 2014, 02:27:11 PMI probably shouldn't curse in church but sir you are a badass! This is excellent songwriting & your delvey is awesome!
Rock On!

Oh no you didn't just, curse in church. Now we know who the real Badass is.
Appreciate the spin, Bro.  ;D

I've always got a Bill Withers vibe from your vocals and songwriting. It's not just the texture and depth of your voice, it's the deep emotional undercurrents and natural 'soul' of the songwriting. I'm a big fan of his - and you!  Always such a delight to hear.

This is a bit of a departure style-wise, but loved the up-tempo ride of it. A beautiful arrangement and a masterful performance (as always).

I love seeing a Nelson post on these boards :-)
