Acoustic Zeppelin longhairs...

Had to get one in for ZepFest, so I chose one from my favorite Zeppelin album: Led Zeppelin III. Thought I'd also play it with a drone: harmonium, playing a steady G note...  :)

I love nearly every song on Led Zeppelin III, and had a few others from it in mind for the fest, but this one came out first. I gained a new-found respect for Messrs. Page & Plant (and Jones) - it took a while to learn to play this fairly smoothly (guitars tuned to open G), and lots of my usual instruments somehow found their way into the mix... This also marks the recording debut of a lap steel guitar that I've had for quite a while now...better late than never.  :D

It's over 6 minutes long, and I had to compress the hell out of it for upload so the SoundCloud player may? offer better sound quality.

Thanks for listening,
cuthbert

That was great.  That was judt f'injg great.

The hurdy gurdy sound...
The multi-tracked guitar...
The understated slide...
The more understated vocal...
And the great production...

Superb! The guitars and other stringed instruments sound wonderful. I especially like that harmonic (I assume) at the end of every other bar. The harmonium drone is cool too. And I love the lap steel. Very creative percussion with the handclaps and fingersnaps. What a great idea! And excellent vocals. I especially like the layered background vocals from about 4:40 to the end. Very Strawbs-like (I love Strawbs). Excellent recording quality and mix too.

Man what a cover ! JS and I were planning to cover this one, but I suppose both of us were too lazy to tune to open G... And I don't see how we could do as good as you.
I like the way you avoid signing the high notes and it gives and new dreaming dimension to the song. The slide guitar is just cheery on the cake.
This could fit in a pro tribute album,
