Wow thanks for bring this to my attention, cause this is pure class, it,s not the recording it the song and the performance that counts and if you,ve got as much talent as Neil, well I,m in awe.

Yes, it's part of a memorial concert for the great Bert Jansch. I saw it this evening; it was by BBC, and...BBC iPlayer can NOT be seen outside UK. But luckily I found it on YouTube some weeks ago and downloaded the full concert (it's not available anymore). A great concert indeed.

About the Lo-Fi...I don't know. I don't understand. It seems to me like flying (today) on a Wright brothers aircraft.
I mean...probably the song would have the same magic if recorded with modern technology...

To be honest, I'm not sure I would like this as well without the video and the story. Both of which are super cool. I just don't know.

That being said, I can thoroughly enjoy a very sub-par recording of a good song and/or good performance. I don't know how many iphone recordings of a piano and vocal or guitar and vocal recording I have that I really like by lots of songwriters.  But purposefully seeking out an inferior recording process without some purpose seems silly. Of course, the idea behind it isn't really silly. So maybe I'm for it. I'm not sure. I definitely want to check out the album.

im going to reply to this without even listening....I think Im going to have seek out the film on BBC I player..Im strange..when It comes to recording, I love gadgets that I find in Junk shops or poundshops Ive use the eye toy from a playstion anything that will record sound I have to try......a lot of my earlier recorded stuff might as well not have vocals, that's as much down to bad recording technique......Im not sure Ill change although I do make an attempt to get better quality sometimes.....Ive got an ipad and a USB mic that is used for Karaoke on the playstation....have just seen an instructible on making your own USB mic so that's my next project well maybe after I make a telescope out of an old 300mm telephoto lens, might even fit a mic onto it and then I can howl at the Moon...

This is really lo-tech stuff. Too really enjoy listening to it, you need to acquire cheapo earphones as well. Radio Shack specializes in cheap junk. A good place to look for them.

Quote from: kenny mac on May 23, 2014, 01:36:09 AMI guess to me personally music to me is all about the song and not the format it is captured in.

That's the nail hit on the head Kenny, if a song moves me it is never due to the quality of the recording or the technical ability required to play it, it goes far deeper than that.

This one is moving me more and more on each listen.
