i would love to have said this was performed live in a scottish sitting room, but vox and keys where recorded separately.

i couldn't find a harmonium patch on my juno to use as a drone, as ivor did.  so i used a squeezebox patch instead.

ivor cutler did indeed own ivory cutlery which he kept on a table in his hall, so i am lead to believe. fans of the late great ivor can play a little game spotting the cutler references.

oh i'd love to eat gruts
in an old scottish sitting room
using ivor cutler's ivory cutlery
and to write my own songs
using words like durty
just to say it like him
oh  waiter oh waiter there's soup on my fly
and a great jammy smear on my tie
oh if only if only if only
you'd given me
ivor cutler's ivory cutlery

ivor cutler's ivory cutlery
and some other purposeful culinary implements
i could use them to eat up
this bicarbonate of chicken
and these lovely cold potatoes and eggmeat
but i'd turn up my nose
at baked beetles
and say no to a round of fly sandwiches
but one day i would love
to be able to say
i ate a ladies bun
with ivor cutler's ivory cutlery

But was it performed in the Turkish Bath?

Great tribute, Jim.

Ivor Cutler is the best bits of what being British is all about.

Oooh…I like this one quite a lot. Great wordplay and a mysterious arrangement - the squeezebox patch is pretty close to the harmonium sound (both instruments use reeds, and some kind of bellows to push the air through the reeds).

I thought I didn't actually know who Ivor Cutler was, and then it suddenly came to me: he played "Buster Bloodvessel", the bus courier in Magical Mystery Tour! I don't know a lot about his music yet, but I think I'm going to look into it. Anybody who plays a harmonium as their main instrument can't be bad... :)

I really love that squeezebox sound. It has a strange, melancholy, otherwordly feel that is deeply nostalgic. Maybe that's because it reminds me of Noggin the Nog. Clever word-play too. I really like this one, James.

Just dropped by to say I love this. Very authentic, I used to love old Ivor back in the day but haven't listened to him for a while. This is brilliant Jim, just loved it. Very clever lyrics and it made me think about a lot of what you do.........
never knowingly understood.  ;)
