A bit of nostalgia for the classic singer-songwriters of the 70's.

Acoustic guitar (Tanglewood) recorded simulataneously through the lead and mic, bass, slide telecaster, garageband electric piano, and vocals. All recorded on the MBR.

Where have all the good songs gone
when you want to take one home?
were they all released like unwanted dogs
by the side of a busy road?

where have all the good songs gone?
the gravitas and soul
I stare at constellations past
from the bottom of this hole

I'll keep searching high and low
and striving to approximate my own
'cause it seem like long ago they had it sussed

but like icarus
they flew too close to the sun

where have all the good songs gone?
baby tell me true
let them frame and score the fact
that i'm so in love with you

where have all the good songs gone -
were they murdered as they slept?
by springheel jack from whitechapel
who over rooftops leapt

I'll keep searching high and low
and striving to approximate my own
'cause it seem like long ago they had it sussed

but like icarus
they flew too close to the sun

It's very, very rare that I deviate from having the bass straight down the centre. I just felt like a change though ;-)

Nelson

The bass caught my attention as well.
I thought it was an interesting / cool change up for a Greeny mix.
Makes you really pay attention because you never know what's coming and it lends itself to that old school feel...please don't ask me why.  ???

Love the way you grab the subjects in your lyrics from any and everywhere.

Nice song. I really like the chorus. The panning of the bass was bold, but interesting.

This is where the good songs have gone. Right here.

Brilliant - bass is a bit funky though in my right ear.

Excellent song. Minor plus point I know, but I love hearing fingers sliding across the frets of an acoustic guitar (providing its not too overbearing), it always gives a song a certain "realness" to my ears

I listened to this first without reading the other comments, so the bass took me a little bit surprise when it first kicked in, and although I am stickler for putting it down the middle, I thought it sounded really cool and added to the wonderful glorious stereo wonderfulness of it all

The nostalgic vibe of those wonderful lyrics is really captured perfectly in the music, and that chorus really does make the song soar to even greater heights!

It's been said already, but great song, Tim.  Really nice to have Green Monday's back around.

Interesting how much debate panning the bass off to one side has stirred up.  And it did strike me when it first came in and before I read the comments.  I'm quite open to it though; provided a some space for the tracks over on the left side to show off.  And it wasn't that uncommon back in the day, really, so it's authentic to the theme of the song in some ways.
