How I do my drum tracks

Excellent tutorial Johnny! Many of our members are Boss BR-80 and BR-800 users. Since a light version of SONAR comes with those recorders, they should be able to follow your tutorial easily. I recommend that anyone who has a copy of SONAR should give your tutorial a try.

I too prefer to program my drum tracks in a MIDI sequencer, although I use various Linux programs to do pretty much the same thing you described in SONAR. I like being able to make several copies of a pattern, then change some of them slightly as needed. That's not easy to do on a BR or with the BR Rhythm Editor software because each changed pattern requires a new programming step and there are only 50 steps available.

But you can save five different songs (at least on the 900), right? Theoretically, you could do a couple, record the sounds or convert them to WAV files and then stick them end to end and then have a longer song. A lot of work but it would save having to go back and forth as much. Might be easier in a DAW, though.

I've begun using EZDrummer and while not perfect, it does the trick. I just ordered a 25 key midi controller, too. So I may be able to "play" my own drum lines soon. *fingers crossed*
