These are the most bizarre public service announcements I've ever seen. They're part of a campaign in India to stop people from shitting in the streets. WTF! They need a campaign to tell people not to shit in the street??? And it's not just a few people. According to the website, half the population of India shits in the open!

Quote from the poo2loo website:
"Daily 620 million Indians are defecating in the open. That's half the population dumping over 65 million kilos of poo out there every day. If this poo continues to be let loose on us, there will be no escaping the stench of life threatening infections, diseases and epidemics."

      Your turn of phrase made me laugh out loud...dunno why. Childish really, innit? But swearing is always funny...it is to me, anyway. Where I'm from, swearing is like punctuation.

I can't say I'm completely surprised - some of those curries are like molten lava!   :o  ::)  ;D  :D

But in a country as populated as India, I'm guessing there may also be a shortage of lavvies...

True. But half the population??? And the other half tolerates it! Could you imagine if half the people in your town or city had a dump in the street every day? How could anyone tolerate that?

Well, on a Saturday night after closing time in the Old Port, I'd reckon a fair percentage of young males leaving the bars will end up taking a piss somewhere out in the open. Probably not 50%, but still... ;)  I've seen pay toilets on larger city street corners in my travels, but we don't have them up in this neck of the woods.

Yes, the whole poo2loo thing is absurd, but I have to give them some credit - at least they're running a pubic awareness campaign about it - although I really doubt that half of their website audience are the ones actually doing the shitting in the streets, so it may not change much at least initially. Probably more likely that a great majority of the homeless and indigent are the ones using the street as a lav.

Perhaps this effort will lead to more money being spent on plumbing and city/town sewage systems? At least I hope so, as my employer may be sending me on a trip to their offices in India some time this year...if I go, I'll be watching my step.  :D

Yeah, I thought that too. I assume that anyone who can afford a computer and internet service probably has indoor plumbing. Then again, having indoor plumbing doesn't necessarily mean that they use it, especially if nature calls while they're outdoors.

I wonder if most public buildings and workplaces have toilets? I mean, if half the country is shitting outdoors anyway, maybe employers and owners of public buildings feel that the expense of providing toilets is unnecessary so they just tell their employees and visitors to go outside.

I've just begun watching 'An Idiot Abroad' on Netflix (from the creative minds of Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant), and this topic reminded me immediately of the India episode. Btw, the show so far is pretty hilarious, although I'm sometimes put off by Ricky's mindless giggling...  ;)

Here's an out-take from that episode which actually addresses what Karl may have to do when nature calls:
