This weekend I made room on my recording desk for the Tascam DP32. I've been reading the manual and familiarizing myself with it's functions.  This song isn't finished but I posted it up at soundclick so you could hear the recording quality of it. This is all done within the Tascam DP32. Only 4 basic tracks thus far plus I'm still learning the ins and outs of the machine. Since this was just a test/demo of sorts, the acoustic/electric guitars will be replaced but I'll most likely keep the vocal tracks. I hope my learning curve doesn't take too long so I can finish this song in a timely manner........

The DP32 does sound great, but I'm sure that also has something to do with the singer and guitar player … :)

Very clean recording and nice separation, and great harmonies - sounds like a winner, Farrell!

Love it brother, sounds very clean & crisp, cool song. So what mic are you using, are there vocal pre-sets? or just reverb? Same question for guitar, is this straight in acoustic with some onboard effects or clean? Is this just a bounce or is this mastered? Did you use the metronome & how loud is it. I'm so jealous I'm about to explode!!! You rock my brother!

Hey thanks all for the encouraging comments on my first go with the DP 32!

Hook: The mic is a Neumann TLM103 large condenser (nice mic). No vocal presets. I just dropped some of the lower freqs, same with mids and boosted the highs slightly on all the vocals. The vocal and guitar effects are reverb and delay. I did copy the guitar track to make two and then panned each out left and right to make a center space for the vocals. The harmonies vox are barely left and right of the lead vox. The identical guitar tracks are panned further out than the vocals. The acoustic is plugged direct to the DP 32 as is the mic. I let the strings ring open in the intro section and in the other verses and chorus I'm muting the two or three strings with the palm of my right picking hand.  So I'm using the Tascam's preamps for guitar and mic. No bouncing or mastering, just individual track eqing, effecting, and panning. I think the clarity is mostly due to recording at 24 bits versus the 16 I normally record at. I just used Audacity to bring up the levels and convert to an MP3.

Oh almost forgot. For the click track, since I was in a hurry, hadn't studied the section on arming/recording the metronome and wanted to get on with the recording, I just recorded the click track from the VF160 to the DP 32. Once it was there I adjusted the volume to my liking and it was plenty loud. I'm still not close to being real comfortable with the DP 32 but I'm getting there.
