I need to run a Mic and a guitar at the same time, I was thinking of using a DI Box to use the small stereo in jack and put the Mic into the guitar/ Mic 1/4 inch jack and record two tracks at the same time.
Do you think this will work. If not can someone please tell me  how I can do it.
thanks

The Mic/Guitar input is mono and is combined with the signals from the stereo Line In and the USB audio. There is no way to separate them. If you want to simultaneously record guitar to one track and vocals to another, your best bet is to get a small mixer that has a HiZ guitar input and a stereo Line Out. Pan the guitar channel of the mixer to one side and the mic to the other. Connect the mixer's stereo output to the BR's stereo Line In and set the BR's Record Level to minimum to avoid picking up noise from the Guitar/Mic input. Use the mixer's master output fader to control the BR's recording level and record to a pair of tracks. The odd-numbered track will record the mixer's left channel and the even-numbered track will record the mixer's right channel.

Another option is to use a USB audio interface connected to your computer. Plug the guitar and mic into separate channels of the audio interface and record in stereo from the USB on the BR. Although, if you're going to use an audio interface, you might as well record directly into a software DAW such as SONAR LE which is included with the BR.

One problem with using Line In or USB is that you don't have access to the COSM Insert Effects. If you need these, then you should record guitar and vocals separately rather than simultaneously.

The effects in the BR? No, not the insert effects. They can only be used with the Guitar/Mic input. You can use the BR's loop effect (reverb) but that doesn't actually get recorded until you bounce or master.

Many mixers have their own built-in effects. If you use those effects, they'll be recorded.

how about using a BR 800 instead of a BR 80. What effects will lose and can I use a Gibson Les Paul to set down a Bass Track

Yes, a BR-800 can record guitar and vocals simultaneously to separate tracks. In fact, it can record up to 4 tracks simultaneously. And separate effects are available for the guitar and the vocals simultaneously, but only when the VO + GT.AMP algorithm of the SIMUL effects bank is selected (see page 63 of the BR-800 manual). Other effects banks and algorithms in the BR-800 only operate on one input at a time (so guitar or vocals but not both).

The BR-800 includes a guitar-to-bass effect and 5 preset patches that use it. But it's not available when the SIMUL bank is selected.

But on the BR800 you can always record 4 tracks dry, and then add effects (including guitar2bass) when bouncing.
