what guitar amp?

A thread like this is chock full of good suggestions, but what this ultimately boils down to is your tonal preferences and the dinero you are willing/capable of doling out.  I'd travel to the nearest large music store(s) with your guitar and start plugging in.  Mornings are good because the stores aren't filled up with Yngwie and Satch clones sweeping their way to oblivion.  You need to hear the amps at the volume you will be pushing them, and that can be difficult when cacophony reigns supreme.

As an aside, I went to see Jack Pearson last year, one of my favorite guitarists, and was just overcome by his glorious tone.  Between songs, I went down to the stage and found him playing through an old and pretty inexpensive Yamaha solid state G110 (or something like that model), so you just never know...you know?
